Valentine's Day
/For Valentine’s Day, we keep it simple and sweet around here. A little bit of chocolate and something small to surprise our kids in the morning as a reminder that we love them all year long! It could be a small book, a new activity, a dress, a pack of gum…just something that shows we care and love having them in our lives! Some people love it or don’t love the day, but for us, we love the opportunity to take time to remind those we love on Valentine’s Day.
Here are a couple book titles we are looking at to give to some of our kids ranging from ages 4-11 from Penguin Random House:
What was the Renaissance, What Was Built to be a Ship of Dreams, What was the Turning Point of the Civil War, and Where is Yellowstone? - If you have a history lover in your home these are excellent reads for ages 8-12. The series has chapters books and offers a graphic novel option as well. Each book shares about a specific place, person or time in history and kids can learn and read at a level they understand.
If I Built a House, If I Built a School - Both of these titles are playful and imaginative. They are the imaginations from a child’s perspective of what the best house and school would be. Each story would also make a great jumping point for creative writing as well.
Meet the Boxcar Children, A Surprise Island Adventure - These easy to read, beginner chapter books are so fun for kids. I remember this series as a young child and they have re-made a few titles in an easier to read format for younger kids.
History as it Happened - A beautiful hardcover book featuring many different maps from history. This would make a great gift for any child interested in major world events. The illustrations are gorgeous and offers a lot of information in an easy to read format.
Our Country’s Presidents - Although we are in Canada, we follow closely along with US history and geography so this is a great book to learn all about past presidents and political events in US history, including the 2024 election.
If you’re looking for something else for Valentine’s Day, Playmobil is a brand we have loved for years in our home. The pieces are made with excellent quality and attention to detail, making it one of our favourite toys for young children. Our children have spent countless hours setting up their own worlds with Playmobil and playing family with each other. The school bus addition was the perfect mode of transportation to bring all of the families to school in our home. It can fit quite a few children in it and the doors open and close making it a fun addition to our Playmobil collection.
However, if you’re kids love creating imaginative stories with their Playmobil characters, the Toy Shop would be a fun add on. The Toy Shop can become a store all your Playmobil characters can visit, try on clothes, and find new things for their families. We love that so many Playmobil pieces can be mix and matched with each other to create your own little city.
That’s our Valentine’s Day round up for you with some sweet gift ideas for your kiddos and we hope you have a wonderful day celebrating with loved ones.
