Fall Book Round-up

September is so exciting, isn’t it?
Well it definitely is for us. There is a lot of new rhythms taking place, a few “firsts” for us and our kids, and there is always a learning curve as we adjust to new routines and most likely a different daily schedule than summer. I’m someone who really loves change and so I welcome September and still hold on tight to any warm summer days that are given.
One thing that really does stay the same in our home is our love for reading. Reading to our kids, having them read to us, learning together as we explore a new person or dive into a story and spark some imagination - it’s all just really worth it to us.
Here are some new titles we have in our homes this September as our kids go back to school and everyone in our homes keeps seeking knowledge and creativity.

Taste Your Words - this is a great visual for kids about our words being delicious like treats or ugly like mud and the disgusting things. A great reinforcement to speak kindly to others!

Penguin and Moose Brave the Night - a cute story about two friends who help remind each other about the truth that God is always with them, even while they are sleeping

God’s Always Loving you - adorable little board book reminding children of all of God’s good gifts to us

Monarch Butterflies - a gorgeous illustrated non-fiction book about butterflies exploring the lives of monarchs, perfect for any bug enthusiast

Spirit Wild Adventure, Spirit Untamed Stickerbook and Spirit Untamed Fast Friends reader - All 3 of these are awesome for the young spirit enthusiast. Both books are picture books with stories of adventure with Spirit. The sticker book provides hours of fun and activity.

She Persisted Series - We are most excited for this new series featuring women from all aspects of life who persisted and persevered to achieve greatness. Some of the first few books include Ruby Bridges, Sally Ride, Florence Griffith Joyner and Harriet Tubman. The books are early chapters books around 60 pages each.

Who Is? - These first read chapter books collection has been around for a few years and they have curated many different titles highlighting important people from athletes to politicians, musicians, actors, humanitarians and even special events such as The Civil Rights Movement and a favourite in our home - Who was Roberto Clemente and Who is Tom Brady!

Cairo and Jake have their names written all over those hockey and baseball books!
Besides reading, we also see our families spending more nights playing board games with the big kids while the little ones are right in there watching or playing with a new sticker book. Here are some ideas for some family game nights with big and little kids!

ABC Spot Me - There are so many different ways you can use this game and I love investing in activities that are endless. This pouch comes with a set of uppercase alphabet cards and picture circle tiles where your kids can match beginning sounds between the letters and pictures.

Bug Bingo - if you have bug enthusiasts in your home, this game is perfect. Each bingo card is filled with an array of different bugs and you can learn about each one as you hear the name being called.

Avocado Smash - a great card counting game that engages the whole family!

Eyelike Sticker Books - These stickers feature so many different themes and offer realistic stickers of many different animals. Some of our favourites are On the Farm, Horses, Animals and Baby Animals

G.O.A.T. Books - If you have young children who love sports add these to your next shopping list. The Greatest of All Time Teams for Baseball and Hockey offer kids a look into the top 10 teams of both sports. There are a few more words on the page than your typical picture book but a great opportunity to sit down to read and learn with your kids.

The How Do Series - A picture book series focusing on STEM topics encourage young readers to think about why and how things work the way they do. How Do You Stop a Moving Train? is a physics book about forces and How Did Romans Count to 100 is about early math!. Phenomenal reads and teaching books.
