Spring Learning

Summer is just around the corner and we always get a bit of a pep in our step when it comes to homeschooling in the late springtime. You can see the end in sight and we know there is one final push before the school year will be over. It’s always a joy to bring in a few new books and fun learning activities to spark everyone’s learning and so we wanted to share a couple ideas from Penguin Random House and Djeco.

Our spring is always filled with a bit of rain here but luckily Djeco has us covered with the prettiest designs for umbrellas and ponchos. As you can tell, using these on a rainy day puts us all in a good mood and my girls are always asking to be the one to hold this umbrella!
Next up are these activity boxes from Djeco that contain stand alone crafts that work well for a homeschooling activity in the afternoon. We love bringing one of these craft boxes out to spark our little artists to try something new or even try a new game like the Little Memo Garden. If you are local and are looking for Djeco products you can find them at Dilly Dally Kids!

When our older children first started reading chapter books Magic Treehouse was a series they both loved. There are over 50 books that have been published in the series and the subject ranges from animal adventures, history adventures and so many more journeys using imagination. Our family was learning about the rainforest and so #6 Afternoon on the Amazon was a perfect fit to tie in with our learning.

For our littles, Jungle Pup from the Paw Patrol series was a perfect to engage the younger audience about the jungle, while still including characters they love. It is a softcover picture book that any fan of Paw Patrol will love.

If you have a new reader, Dr Seuss’ collection of books have a lot of repetition and rhyming along with some tongue twisters that make for excellent practice. The stories are funny and engaging, drawing readers of all ages in! If you think you have nothing to do had all of my children engaged from beginning to end.

Some new spring titles for your children’s bookshelves:

5 Minute Shark Stories - A beautiful hardcover book by National Geographic featuring short stories about sharks.

Little Women - As our children are getting older we thought it would be time to introduce some of the classics to them and Little Women by Louise May Alcott is on our list of ones to read as well as Emma by Jane Eyre.

National Geographic - It’s no secret that our children love animals so naturally the Animal All-Stars Collection and Find it! Explore it! Animals Rainforest are both favourites in our homes. The Find it! Explore it! Animals is a look and find and also share information about each animal as well. The Animal All-stars collection teaches children about Koalas, Sea Otters, Red Pandas, Hedgehogs and Frogs all-in-one. These nature readers have been a staple in our home for many years.
