His name [part 1]
/Cairo [Kye-roh]
Cairo Ari 3 months
The decision
We wrestled over names all throughout my pregnancy and never quite solidified our first born son’s name until the evening after he was born. Cairo was always on the list, and in my eyes, at or near the top the entire time. I had spent time daydreaming of little boy & girl names ever since David and I had started dating (doesn’t everyone?) and I had come across the name “Cairo” while scouring the internet one day for new names to add to my list. I eagerly opened my iPhone notes and wrote it down right under the name Sampson (my husband’s top pick), secretly knowing that eventually I would convince David that Cairo was THE name. I originally fell in love with it because it was original enough that I hadn’t met anyone with the name, but simple enough that a teacher could pronounce it on his first day of Kindergarten.
The meaning
It means “Victorious” and we know that Jesus has already ‘won’ Cairo’s life, it is simply a matter of Cairo choosing to serve Him. I find strength in the word Victory; we don’t need to fight a battle that Jesus has already won, we get to enjoy the win by serving Him and inviting others to bask in that glory.
1 John 5:4
For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith.
