Dancing Bears

Well we are almost at our Christmas break from our first year of homeschooling. To be honest I didn’t know how I would feel about homeschooling going into this journey. However, we are 4 months in and we are loving it. There are hard days, days when we are all unmotivated, but most of the time I am loving watching my children delight in the learning process and spending so much quality time together. We will take some time off during the holidays but we have been working on a new Earth Science unit from Gather Round as well as some Christmas activities the last few weeks and have loved it.

Every time we begin a new unit (and this is only our second) I always try to find a few engaging hands on activities and projects we can explore throughout our unit. There is a fantastic company called Dancing Bear which creates rock and fossil kits that are incredible for kids. The boxes comes packed with a variety of different rocks and minerals allowing for endless possibilities for learning.

My kids have studied the different rocks, organized the rocks by categories, looked for matching rocks in their picture books, created stories with the rocks and have written about the rocks as well. There are so many endless learning opportunities. The Rock, Mineral and Geode Discovery Collection Activity Kit has over 200 pieces including shark teeth, arrowheads, geodes, amethyst and quartz. It is the perfect option for children who are interested in rocks and love to expand their curiosity.

The Fossil Sorting Activity Kit allows children to sort through over 100 different types of fossils and try to identify them. It is the perfect kit for a child who loves to learn and explore. Dancing Bears even has party favour kits where you can hand out little packages as take home gifts for children. What an awesome idea!

We have loved learning and exploring with our kits and think they would be an excellent addition to your learning at home program, a birthday gift or even just an activity for your kids to do on the weekend.
