nursery: for the baseball fan

As soon as we found out we were pregnant I started dreaming of a boy's nursery. We did not know the gender until about halfway through but from the day I knew I would be a mom, something inside me always pointed to a boy. I always looked at boy clothes, boy nursery ideas, boy everything! Did you ever get this intuition with your babes?
When the gender was confirmed in June, off to work I went on our son's nursery!

Cairo's room ended up being my summer project last year as I am lucky enough to have a job where I get the summer months off. His room started with finding a beautiful wooden crib on the side of the road for FREE! I thought I had hit the jackpot.
As it turns out, sanding and painting about 50 individual spindles is not the funnest thing in the world. Yes the crib was free, but boy did I pay for it in hours and hours spent on my patio sanding and painting each spindle. Despite the hours of work, I absolutely loved the finished product and come on... it was free.
Here is that crib and the rest of Cairo's Red Sox Baseball inspired room.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

My answer will always be Fenway Park. Last April we were fortunate enough to go there and one of the games we attended they happened to be giving out these Fenway Park mini stadiums to every fan in attendance. I knew exactly where I was going to put it :)

I wanted this space to feel a little more grown up than a typical nursery, with a bit of rugged/industrial/sports locker room vibe throw in. This pegboard helped bring that design to life as it is quite a unique piece and was surprisingly easy to make. Rona offers this white pegboard and I got them to cut it to the size I needed. I found 2 different baskets and a couple hooks and was able to add some decor pieces; a garage-sale-find baseball glove and a mini Boston Red Sox bat that my husband bought at the Louisville Slugger Museum. My mom also handmade the banner with Cairo's name and gifted me the vintage Red Sox pennant.

There are a few handmade pieces in Cairo's room that I adore:
1. The quilt! yes my mom hand stitched each square specific to my nursery colours
2. The birth announcement was a piece I made using Adobe Indesign with his birth details
3. Chelsea made the water colour postcard and also the baseball print that has a bible verse outlining it

We read from our book shelf almost every day and our favourite is definitely Judah and Chelsea Smith's book: I Will Follow Jesus, they are such well written bible stories - highly recommend it!

Thanks for popping in to see this little room I got to create for our first born!
